This cookie policy explains what Insurance Compared Daily stores in your browser and why. The short answer: we store two small settings (three if you use our checklist), and we run no analytics or advertising cookies today.

What are cookies and browser storage?

Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Browser storage (such as localStorage) works in a similar way: it lets a website remember a setting on your device. Both can be used for simple things, like remembering your settings, or for tracking you across websites. We only use them for simple things.

What we store

Insurance Compared Daily uses two items, plus a third if you use our checklist, all in your browser’s localStorage:

NameTypePurposeCategoryHow long it lasts
icd-themelocalStorageRemembers whether you chose light or dark modeFunctionalUntil you clear your browser storage or change it
icd-consentlocalStorageRemembers your choice in the cookie bannerStrictly necessaryUntil you clear your browser storage or change it
icd-checklist-<language>localStorageRemembers which steps you ticked in our insurance shopping checklistFunctional (only set when you tick a box)Until you clear the checklist or your browser storage

If you use our insurance shopping checklist, a third item, icd-checklist-<language>, remembers which boxes you ticked. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and the checklist’s “Clear checklist” button deletes it.

Neither item contains your name, email address or any information that identifies you. Neither is shared with anyone.

What we don’t use

We do not use:

  • Advertising cookies
  • Cross-site tracking cookies or tracking pixels
  • Social media tracking tools
  • Analytics (none run on the site today)

We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Our hosting provider

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. To deliver pages quickly and protect the site from attacks and abuse, Cloudflare processes IP addresses and request logs. In some situations, such as when it checks for suspicious traffic, Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie. These are used only for security and delivery, not for advertising.

Analytics in the future

No analytics run on the site today. If we decide to add analytics to understand which guides are most helpful, we will:

  1. Choose a privacy-friendly tool.
  2. Load it only after you accept “Analytics” in the cookie banner.
  3. Update this page and our privacy policy before it goes live, including the name and purpose of any new cookie or storage item.

If you do not accept “Analytics,” no analytics will load.

Global Privacy Control

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC). If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. See our Do Not Sell or Share page.

How to manage your choices

You are in control:

  • Change your cookie choice: clear your browser storage for our site and the cookie banner will appear again, so you can choose again.
  • Change your theme: use the theme switch on the site.
  • Clear storage: use your browser’s settings to clear site data for insurancecompareddaily.com. The site will forget your theme and cookie choices.
  • Block storage: most browsers let you block site storage. You can still read every article.

Strictly necessary versus functional

These two words describe why a site stores something:

  • Strictly necessary storage is needed for the site to work the way you asked. Our icd-consent item is strictly necessary because it remembers the choice you made in the cookie banner. Without it, we could not respect your choice.
  • Functional storage remembers a preference to make the site easier to use. Our icd-theme item is functional. It only saves whether you like light or dark mode.

Neither type is used to track you, build a profile about you or show you ads. Because they are strictly necessary or functional, they do not need your consent under common privacy rules, but we still list them here so you know exactly what is on your device.

Our articles link to official sources, such as state insurance departments, statutes, the NAIC and federal agencies. When you click one of those links, you leave our site. The website you visit may set its own cookies under its own policy. We do not control those cookies and cannot see them. Check that website’s privacy or cookie policy to learn more.

Our forms

Our contact and newsletter forms do not set any cookies of their own on our site. When you send the contact form, your name, email, topic and message go to our editorial inbox. When you sign up for the newsletter, your email and preferred language go to our email-list provider. Our privacy policy explains how we handle that information.

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. Because we do not track you across websites, our site works the same way whether or not this setting is on. We also honor the stronger Global Privacy Control signal described above.

Your rights under state privacy laws

Some state privacy laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), give you rights over personal information, including information collected through cookies. We do not use cookies to sell or share your personal information. To make a privacy request, see our Do Not Sell or Share page.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we store, we will update the table above and the “updated” date at the top of this page.
